English Teachers for Kenya
Roko 20 Academy
MURANGA TOWN (fomer Fort Hall), Kenya 1 Year
Native English Speaker
Help us to improve our pupils' English at a charity primary school in rural Kenya. The school was set up in 2014 by a UK citizen. She employs Kenyan teachers and staff but volunteers from overseas bring a fresh approach to teaching English. Working with the Class Teacher to follow the Kenyan curriculum the volunteer may take an English lesson for each of the six classes.
There is the option to teach English through Art class, Journal and Story lessons. If you are computer literate and able to teach the basics, this would be an advantage.
The school has around 80 pupils. The classes start in Nursery through to Class 4. Please visit our website or face book page for further information.
TEFL trained or Primary teaching qualifications and experience required.
For Art, Journal and story lessons as well as computer lessons then teaching qualifications are not necessary.
Bundles of patience is a necessity and a desire to change the lives of children through education essential. These are children who are most disadvantaged in terms of opportunities. Many are living in abject poverty.
Not for the feint hearted, living in the rural are can be challenging. Its it no way like it is 'back home'.
This is purely voluntary. We are a UK registered charity. We provide food at the school which is typical Kenyan fare. Evening and weekend meals at your own expense. Accommodation can be provided but at your cost.
